THE COMPUTERIZED DEVICE DESIGNED TO CONTROL
THE SURFACE INSULATION RESISTIVITY OF COATINGS
FRANKLIN TESTER TF-100

The measuring device Franklin tester is designed to measure
the insulation resistivity of coating and its mineral components on the surface
of electrotechnical steel sheet as well as applied enamel to generator stator
core laminations according to the ASTM A717/ A717 M - 95 Standard.
Microprocessor controlled power supply with bi-directional servomotor and
electronic regulator of adjustments rate allows setting the specific pressure
forces of measuring head (which contains 10 electrodes) on the tested object.
The tested object is placed on the hot plate of the measuring table, which is
pressed down to the measuring head as well as warmed up according to the settled
pressure and temperature values.
In the moment of switching on the measuring procedure, two mills point wise
remove the coat. It is ensure the galvanic contact of the device with electrotechnical
sheet. The quality of this contact as well as measuring procedure is controlled
automatically. When pressure and temperature are stabilized and after 30 seconds,
the value of current is measured under strictly specified applied voltage. The
measured current flows between the electrodes and the sheet, which is the base
of insulating coat.
The measuring table automatically comes back to the initial position after the
measurement procedure is finished. It allows fixing new tested specimen and
performing new measurement.
The device is fully automated including the procedure of the pressure and
temperature setting, measurement, calculations and the recording of measurement
results.

The performance capabilities of the tester ensure the measuring precision acquired
for the unequivocal evaluation of both insulating coat of the sheets and the quality
of varnish procedure. Franklin tester is especially valuable as basic equipment for
research laboratories and companies, which are engaged in technology, production and
utilisation of electrotechnical steel.
